Seva First Innovation Challenge 2026 Launches at IISc Bengaluru, Registration Opens

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi will inaugurate the Seva First Innovation Challenge at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, on September 25. The initiative aims to encourage students and young participants to identify local problems and develop practical solutions that can eventually be tested and implemented.

The challenge will cover Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Puducherry. Students from schools, ITIs, polytechnics, colleges and universities can participate through three levels: Junior, Technical and Open.

Students from Classes 6 to 12 will participate in the Junior category, focusing on local problems and simple working solutions or service and governance ideas. ITI and polytechnic students will work on engineering, fabrication, electronics and process-based solutions. Undergraduate and postgraduate students and research scholars will be expected to develop prototypes or pilots with a possible pathway to deployment.

The challenge will focus on five themes: Clean and Sustainable Bharat, Prosperous Farmers and Prosperous Bharat, Healthy and Inclusive Bharat, Educated and Skilled Bharat, and Secure Bharat.

Registration will remain open from September 25 to October 24, 2026. The National Finale is scheduled in New Delhi from December 10 to 17. Participants will receive access to mentorship, laboratories, fabrication facilities, testing support, incubation, funding and field-testing opportunities. The challenge is being organised by the Education Ministry, AICTE and UGC, with IISc Bengaluru as the nodal institute.
