Manoj Bajpayee Moves Delhi High Court Over AI Voice, Image and Personality Rights

Actor Manoj Bajpayee has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights amid allegations that his image, voice and other identity-related attributes are being used without authorisation. The matter was briefly heard by Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav on September 21, 2026.

The petition raises concerns over the use of Bajpayee’s photographs to suggest an association with a clothing brand, along with allegations that AI tools have been used to recreate his voice. The actor has also objected to AI chatbots allegedly incorporating elements associated with his personality.

During the hearing, the court questioned why the case was filed in Delhi when Bajpayee is primarily based in Mumbai. His counsel argued that some defendants are located in Delhi, providing a basis for the court’s jurisdiction. The court asked the lawyer to compile previous interim and final orders involving personality rights and explain how other High Courts have handled similar cases.

The case comes amid a growing number of Indian legal disputes involving celebrity identity, AI-generated content and unauthorised commercial use. Delhi High Court has previously dealt with personality-rights cases involving several actors, sportspersons and public figures, reflecting increasing legal attention on the protection of names, images, voices and other distinctive identity attributes.
