Salman Khan Personality Rights Case: Delhi HC Orders Platforms to Act Within 3 Days

The Delhi High Court has issued strong directions to safeguard actor Salman Khan’s personality rights, ordering social media platforms, websites and intermediaries to take action within three days on any complaint of unauthorised use of his name, image, voice or likeness.

Khan had approached the court seeking protection against several known and unknown entities (including John Doe defendants) for misusing his persona to sell commercial merchandise, mislead the public, and profit off his identity without consent.

The court said it will issue a detailed order restricting these parties from exploiting the actor’s personality attributes for commercial gain. It also instructed one of the defendants accused of trademark violation to consider Khan’s IP rights before making further decisions.

The bench noted that stay orders will soon be passed to curb unauthorised commercial activity using Salman Khan’s identity.

With this case, Khan joins a growing list of celebrities — including Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Ajay Devgn, Jr NTR, Karan Johar, Kumar Sanu, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Sudhir Chaudhary and Raj Shamani — who have sought legal protection of their personality rights amid widespread misuse across digital platforms.
