According to co-creator Kushal Srivastava, the Netflix series might not have taken shape without the support, guidance and encouragement he received from his uncle, Raju Srivastav.

Why Is Raju Srivastav Thanked in Operation Safed Sagar?

Operation Safed Sagar holds strong emotional significance for the Srivastava family because it was among the projects Raju Srivastav knew about before his death in September 2022.

The project was initially conceived as a feature film before being redeveloped as a series. Netflix reportedly approved the project in May 2022.

Kushal later decided that every episode should include a special acknowledgement for his uncle, recognising the support Raju provided throughout his filmmaking journey.

The series stars Jimmy Shergill and Siddharth and is connected to the Indian Air Force, making it particularly personal for Kushal, who previously served in the force.

Raju Srivastav Was Kushal's First Teacher in Storytelling

Before entering filmmaking, Kushal Srivastava served in the Indian Air Force for several years.

After leaving the force, he moved to Mumbai to study filmmaking and spent time with his uncle, Raju Srivastav. Growing up, Kushal had frequently visited Raju's sets and observed him working as an entertainer.

According to Kushal, watching Raju perform and interact with audiences helped him understand the basics of storytelling and entertainment.

He considered his uncle one of his earliest teachers in understanding how stories connect with people.

How Raju Srivastav Helped With Kushal's Career

Raju Srivastav's involvement in Kushal's creative journey began long before Operation Safed Sagar.

Kushal's first film, Vodka Diaries, released in 2018 and also included a special mention for Raju Srivastav.

As Kushal began developing stories and writing scripts, he would reportedly discuss his work with his uncle and seek feedback.

The early research and writing for Operation Safed Sagar also began in 2018. Kushal recalled conducting part of his research while working from Raju's office.

Raju also helped the team navigate the process of seeking permissions from government ministries for the project.

From a Film Idea to a Netflix Series

Operation Safed Sagar was originally planned as a film.

Kushal later developed the concept into a series with Raju Srivastav's daughter, Antara Srivastav, who is also associated with the project as an associate director.

The series' focus on the Indian Air Force also reflects Kushal's own personal background and experience.

By the time the project evolved into a Netflix series, Raju Srivastav had already played an important role in supporting its development.
