India Women Announce 5-Match T20I Series vs Sri Lanka as Build-Up to T20 World Cup 2026 Begins

Fresh off their historic 2025 ODI World Cup triumph, the Indian women’s cricket team is set to return to competitive action in a five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, beginning December 21. This series will open India’s preparatory campaign for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled for June.

India were originally slated to tour Bangladesh for three ODIs and three T20Is in December, but the series has been postponed due to the political unrest in the neighbouring country. With the calendar window now open, the BCCI has slotted a full T20I series against Sri Lanka to ensure uninterrupted preparation.

India vs Sri Lanka: New Beginning After World Cup High

The T20I series will begin with the first two matches in Visakhapatnam (Dec 21 & 23). From the third T20I onward, the action shifts to Thiruvananthapuram (Dec 26, 28 & 30), which will also host the final two games.

For Harmanpreet Kaur and her team, the focus now shifts to reclaiming dominance in the shortest format. India exited early in the 2024 T20 World Cup after losses to New Zealand and Australia—an outcome that prompted a deeper rebuild.

Since then, the Women in Blue have shown strong resurgence, winning two consecutive series:

  • 2–1 vs West Indies

  • 3–2 vs England

With the T20 World Cup less than seven months away, India will also face Australia (February 2026) and England (May 2026), making this Sri Lanka series a crucial starting point in their roadmap.
