Janhvi Kapoor Calls Lynching of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh “Slaughter”

Actor Janhvi Kapoor has strongly condemned the brutal lynching of a Hindu worker in Bangladesh, calling the incident “barbaric” and urging people to speak out against extremism without selective outrage.

Reacting to the killing of Dipu Chandra Das, Kapoor shared a detailed note on Instagram Stories, describing the incident as “slaughter” and warning against indifference to violence happening closer to home.

“What is happening in Bangladesh is barbaric. It is slaughter and it is not an isolated incident,” she wrote, urging people to educate themselves about the incident and confront inhuman acts openly. She added that ignoring such violence while focusing outrage only on distant global issues reflected dangerous hypocrisy.

Kapoor further stressed that extremism must be condemned in all forms before society loses its moral compass. “Extremism in any and every form needs to be called out and condemned before we forget our humanity,” she wrote. Her remarks were widely shared across social media platforms, including Reddit and X.

About the Incident

Dipu Chandra Das, a 25-year-old Hindu garment factory worker, was lynched in Bhaluka following allegations of blasphemy. According to local reports, he was beaten by a mob, tied to a tree and set on fire near the Pioneer Knit Composite Factory, where he was employed. His family reportedly learned of the attack through social media.

Bangladesh police have arrested at least 12 people in connection with the killing. The incident has drawn international attention and condemnation, particularly amid concerns over repeated violence linked to blasphemy allegations and attacks on minority communities.

Social Media Reactions

Many social media users praised Kapoor for speaking out on the issue, noting that few celebrities had addressed the incident publicly. Several posts lauded her for addressing extremism without what they described as selective outrage, while others acknowledged her willingness to engage with sensitive issues beyond cinema.

The lynching of Dipu Chandra Das continues to fuel debate over minority safety, extremism and accountability in Bangladesh, with renewed calls for justice and stronger protections for vulnerable communities.
