Jio Platforms IPO Fully Subscribed Within Two Hours: Should Retail Investors Apply?

Jio Platforms’ ₹30,213-crore IPO drew strong institutional demand on opening day, but subdued retail participation and a cooling grey market premium warrant caution.

Jio Platforms IPO details and subscription demand ahead of its scheduled stock market listing
Jio Platforms’ IPO attracted strong institutional demand on opening day, while retail subscription remained comparatively subdued.

Jio Platforms’ ₹30,213-crore initial public offering (IPO) was fully subscribed within two hours of opening on October 21, driven largely by strong demand from institutional investors. However, retail participation remained relatively low, raising questions about whether individual investors should apply for the issue.

According to subscription figures available at 11:14 am, the IPO was subscribed 1.23 times overall. The qualified institutional buyers (QIB) category, excluding anchor investors, was subscribed 3.77 times, while the retail portion reached 0.32 times and the non-institutional investor (NII) category stood at 0.39 times.

Investors had bid for approximately 24.24 crore shares against 19.75 crore shares on offer.

Jio Platforms IPO GMP Today

The grey market premium (GMP) stood at ₹265 as of 10:37 am on October 21. Against the upper price band of ₹1,119, this suggested an indicative listing price of ₹1,384, representing a potential premium of around 23.68%.

However, the GMP had eased from ₹276 earlier in the morning. It stood at ₹245 on October 19 and ₹273 on October 20.

At the quoted premium, a retail investor applying for one lot of 12 shares could theoretically see a gain of ₹3,180 if the shares listed at ₹1,384. This is only an unofficial market estimate, not a guaranteed return.

Jio Platforms IPO Details

The IPO opened on October 21 and closes on October 23. Its price band is ₹1,065–₹1,119 per share, with a fresh issue of 27 crore shares and no offer for sale.

Retail investors must apply for a minimum lot of 12 shares, requiring ₹13,428 at the upper price band. Allotment is expected on October 26, with listing scheduled on the NSE and BSE for October 28.

The company has raised approximately ₹8,110 crore from anchor investors, with the anchor book reportedly attracting demand exceeding 30 times the amount offered.

Why Brokerages See Long-Term Potential

Religare Broking has recommended “Subscribe – Long Term”, citing Jio Platforms’ scale, financial performance and opportunities in 5G, digital services and enterprise technology.

According to the brokerage note, Jio Platforms served more than 53.3 crore customers as of June 2026, including over 28.5 crore 5G users.

Revenue from operations increased from ₹1,09,558 crore in FY24 to ₹1,46,885 crore in FY26. EBITDA rose to ₹76,255 crore, while profit after tax reached ₹30,049 crore in FY26.

The brokerage expects the company to benefit from rising data consumption, broadband adoption, cloud migration and AI-enabled services.

Risks Retail Investors Should Consider

Religare flagged the company’s dependence on Reliance Jio Infocomm for a significant share of its revenue and profits. Regulatory changes, competition from satellite-based broadband and disruptions involving telecom infrastructure providers could also affect performance.

More than 90% of Jio Platforms’ revenue reportedly comes from its telecom business, highlighting its continued dependence on connectivity services despite expansion into other digital segments.

Should You Apply for Listing Gains?

Strong institutional demand signals interest in the issue, but it does not guarantee listing-day profits. The easing GMP and relatively subdued retail participation are additional factors investors should consider.

Long-term investors can evaluate the company’s growth prospects alongside its valuation, business concentration and regulatory risks. Those seeking quick listing gains should remember that grey market premiums are unofficial and can change before listing.

Investors have until October 23 to review the available financial information and risks before deciding whether to apply.
