Trump Claims He Prevented India-Pakistan Nuclear War, Saved Pak PM

Trump claims he stopped an India-Pakistan nuclear war and saved Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif during Operation Sindoor.

Trump Claims He Prevented India-Pakistan Nuclear War, Saved Pak PM

Donald Trump has again asserted that he prevented a nuclear confrontation between India and Pakistan, adding a dramatic new claim that his intervention saved Prime minister Shehbaz Sharif from being killed during last year’s Operation Sindoor.

Speaking during his first State of the Union address of his second term, Trump said Pakistan’s leadership warned him that millions could have died if hostilities had escalated.

He claimed Sharif told him up to 35 million people might have been killed if the conflict had continued.

What Trump said in his address

Trump stated he had ended multiple global conflicts during his time in office and included India-Pakistan tensions among them.

He said:

  • He intervened to prevent a nuclear war.

  • Pakistan’s prime minister would have died without US involvement.

  • Millions of lives were at risk.

He grouped the claim alongside other conflicts he says he helped defuse globally.

India rejects third-party mediation claims

India has consistently denied any foreign mediation role in halting hostilities.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar previously dismissed the claim, remarking that the United States “was in the United States” during the crisis.

According to Indian officials:

  • Pakistan’s military initiated contact through DGMO channels.

  • A ceasefire understanding followed direct military communication.

  • No third-party mediation was involved.

Pakistan’s stance and Nobel nomination controversy

Islamabad had earlier nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his diplomatic intervention.

However, his latest remarks suggesting Pakistan was under severe pressure have created political discomfort domestically.

The new claim implies Islamabad sought urgent de-escalation during the crisis.

What was Operation Sindoor?

Though official details remain limited, Operation Sindoor is understood to refer to last year’s intense India-Pakistan military confrontation that lasted several days and raised global concerns over escalation between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

The episode triggered:

  • international calls for restraint

  • fears of nuclear escalation

  • heightened military readiness on both sides

Geopolitical implications of Trump’s statement

Trump’s renewed claims arrive at a time of shifting global alliances and heightened scrutiny of nuclear flashpoints.

Experts note:

  • India maintains a firm stance against third-party mediation.

  • Pakistan faces internal debate over crisis management.

  • Washington continues positioning itself as a global crisis broker.

Diplomatic narrative battle continues

While Trump portrays the episode as a diplomatic success, India maintains the ceasefire resulted from direct military communication and sovereign decision-making.

The contrasting narratives reflect broader geopolitical messaging and domestic political positioning in all three countries.
