Vaibhav Suryavanshi Smashes Maiden SMAT Century at 14, Hits 108* Against Maharashtra

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old batting sensation, delivered another extraordinary performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, smashing his maiden century in the domestic T20 tournament on Tuesday at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The Bihar opener hammered 108 not out off 61 balls, reaching his hundred in 57 deliveries against Prithvi Shaw-led Maharashtra.

On a surface that made stroke play difficult, Vaibhav displayed remarkable composure, striking seven sixes and seven fours to anchor Bihar’s innings. Carrying his bat through the 20 overs, he guided Bihar to a competitive 176/3, contributing more than half of the total.

What makes the feat even more astonishing is that Vaibhav has now compiled three T20 hundreds before turning 15, including his record-breaking IPL century for Rajasthan Royals — a landmark that made headlines across the cricketing world.

Bihar were in early trouble at 31/2 inside the powerplay after Bipin Saurabh and Piyush Kumar Singh fell cheaply. Vaibhav rebuilt the innings with Aakash Raj, stitching a crucial 70-run stand for the third wicket. Showing maturity beyond his years, he played cautiously against quality spinners Vicky Ostwal and Jalaj Saxena before accelerating later in the innings.

Vaibhav’s exceptional shot selection, ability to maneuver the field on a slow pitch, and confidence against senior bowlers have further fuelled conversations about his rapid rise — and a potential India call-up in the near future.

The teenager has been in incredible form throughout the year. He starred in the Rising Stars Asia Cup in Doha, scoring 239 runs, including a 32-ball century against UAE, at a hefty average of 59.75 and a strike rate of 243.87.

Earlier, Vaibhav made his Ranji Trophy debut at age 12 and became a national sensation after his explosive IPL season with Rajasthan Royals, where he smashed 252 runs at a strike rate above 200, including a stunning 38-ball 101 against Gujarat Titans — becoming the youngest centurion in IPL history.

He also holds the record for the fastest century by an Indian in U-19 Tests, scoring a 78-ball ton against Australia Under-19.

At just 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is rewriting record books — and Tuesday’s match-winning century at Eden Gardens further cements his status as one of India’s most promising young batting talents.
