Amit Shah Says Naxalism Near End, Targets Congress Over Tribal Development

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that Naxalism in India is nearing its end, particularly in regions like Bastar in Chhattisgarh. Addressing the Lok Sabha, he highlighted that Left-Wing Extremism is now in its “last phase” due to sustained efforts by the government.

He emphasised that consistent security operations, improved governance, and focused development initiatives have significantly reduced the influence of Naxal groups across affected areas.

Focus on Bastar as Key Example

Bastar, once considered a stronghold of Naxal activity, has witnessed major changes in recent years. According to the government, increased security presence and infrastructure development have helped bring stability to the region.

Road connectivity, access to basic services, and administrative reach have improved, contributing to a decline in insurgent influence.

Criticism of Previous Governments

During his address, Amit Shah strongly criticised the Congress, questioning why adequate development was not ensured in tribal regions during its tenure. He argued that despite years of governance, essential benefits did not reach people living in Naxal-affected areas.

He further stated that the lack of development in these regions contributed to the growth of extremism, and that governance gaps were a key factor behind the issue.

Link Between Development and Security

The Home Minister highlighted that development and security go hand in hand in tackling insurgency. He stressed that Left-Wing Extremism does not promote progress and instead creates barriers to growth in tribal areas.
