Parliamentary Panel to Review NEET UG Exam Reforms and Coaching Centre Regulations

A parliamentary committee will examine national examination integrity, NEET UG reforms and coaching centre regulations amid concerns over question paper leaks and compliance.

Parliamentary committee reviewing NEET UG examination reforms and coaching centre regulations in India
A parliamentary standing committee has selected examination integrity, coaching centre regulation and education reforms for review in 2026–27.

A parliamentary panel is set to review the integrity of national examinations, examine the need for reforms in the public examination system and assess the regulation of coaching centres. The move follows renewed concerns about examination security after the reported leak of NEET UG 2026 question papers for medical admissions.

The previous parliamentary panel examining the issue had highlighted the need for stronger procedural and institutional reforms after NEET UG 2026 was cancelled despite measures intended to protect the examination process.

The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports will examine how coaching centres function, including the regulations governing them, their enforcement and compliance.

Committee Selects Subjects for 2026–27

The committee was reconstituted in September for a one-year term and has selected its subjects for the 2026–27 period, according to a Lok Sabha bulletin.

Alongside examination reforms and coaching centre regulation, the panel will review progress in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Its agenda also includes examining the functioning and performance of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE).

NCERT and CBSE Functioning Under Review

The committee will assess CBSE's functioning across areas including affiliation, regulation, examination conduct and overseas ventures. The review will also cover NCERT's performance and role in the education system.

These subjects form part of the panel's broader examination of educational institutions, policies and systems.

Student Welfare and Emerging Technologies

The parliamentary panel will also examine student welfare and support systems in school education. Areas under consideration include health, safety, mental well-being, inclusive education and grievance redressal mechanisms.

Another subject on the agenda is the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies on education and students' employability.

The committee will additionally review the implementation of University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations and guidelines concerning the internationalisation of higher education.

What the Review Could Cover

The committee's agenda brings examination security, coaching centre oversight, institutional performance and student welfare under parliamentary scrutiny. Its review will consider both the integrity of national examinations and wider challenges affecting India's education system.

The panel's examination of these subjects forms part of its selected work for 2026–27. The provided announcement does not specify a timeline for recommendations or detail any proposed changes to examination rules.
