A social media video celebrating Rose Day has landed a woman from Bihar in legal trouble after authorities registered a case citing violations of the state’s strict prohibition laws. The incident involves Kanchan Devi, a resident of Munger district, whose viral reels showing a romantic celebration with her husband prompted police action and an official investigation.
According to officials, the video posted online featured Devi presenting roses to her husband before handing him a glass of wine and a bottle during the celebration. Since alcohol consumption and promotion are banned under Bihar’s prohibition policy, the clip quickly drew attention from law enforcement after gaining traction on social media platforms.
Police said that once the videos went viral, a team was formed to verify the content and assess potential violations. During the inquiry, another clip surfaced in which Devi appeared posing with a pistol at a beauty parlour, raising additional concerns regarding public display of weapons. Investigators later identified the firearm as belonging to Vishal Kumar, a local resident, which further expanded the scope of the case.
Authorities confirmed that a formal FIR has been registered against both individuals. Officials emphasised that displaying alcohol publicly or promoting it online can attract legal consequences in Bihar, where prohibition laws remain strictly enforced. The state government has maintained a zero-tolerance approach toward alcohol-related activities, and police have reiterated that social media content is also subject to legal scrutiny.
The case highlights how digital content can trigger real-world legal action, especially in regions with stringent regulations. Law enforcement officials stated that public display of weapons without proper context or permissions also constitutes a serious offence, adding another dimension to the ongoing probe.
Kanchan Devi, who reportedly has a significant online following, gained widespread attention after her reels circulated across platforms. The viral nature of the clips sparked debates online, with some users questioning the severity of enforcement, while others pointed to the importance of respecting state laws.
Police officials have indicated that further investigation is underway to determine whether additional charges may apply. They also warned content creators to remain aware of local regulations before posting videos that may be interpreted as promoting restricted activities.
Bihar introduced prohibition policies with the aim of reducing alcohol consumption and related social issues. Since then, enforcement agencies have taken strict measures against violations, including cases triggered by online content. The latest incident underscores the growing intersection between social media influence and legal accountability in the digital age.
