Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has predicted a BJP hat-trick in Uttar Pradesh, asserting that the party will return to power with a huge majority in the 2027 Assembly elections. Dismissing Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's assessment of the recent Legislative Council election results, Pathak said the opposition should not underestimate the BJP's electoral prospects.
Speaking to reporters in Hardoi on Thursday, Pathak remarked, "The Samajwadi Party should not daydream." He added that the BJP had retained its seats in the recent elections and was already preparing for the next Assembly polls.
BJP Wins Six Seats in Legislative Council Elections
Elections were held for 11 seats from teachers' and graduates' constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP won six seats, while the Samajwadi Party secured five.
Although the BJP retained its position, the SP improved its tally by two seats compared with its previous performance.
Reacting to the results, Akhilesh Yadav had described the outcome as a "double defeat" for the state's "double-engine government". The results have attracted political attention ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Pathak Targets SP Over Law and Order
Pathak also criticised the Samajwadi Party over its record on law and order, alleging that the situation deteriorated whenever the party was in power in Uttar Pradesh.
He claimed that infrastructure development and law and order had improved under the BJP government. Referring to welfare schemes introduced by the Centre and development initiatives in the state, the Deputy Chief Minister said these achievements would support the BJP's campaign for another term.
Pathak Attends Traditional Wrestling Competition in Hardoi
Pathak made the remarks while attending a traditional wrestling competition at a temple complex in Mallawan, Hardoi district.
The event, which has a history spanning more than a century, featured wrestlers from India and abroad. Welcoming participants, Pathak praised the organisers and local residents for preserving traditional wrestling culture and encouraging rural youth to participate in sports.
When asked about alleged shortcomings in facilities at the Hardoi medical college, Pathak said infrastructure would improve gradually as the institution developed.
The political exchange comes as both the BJP and Samajwadi Party prepare for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with recent Legislative Council results adding to the political debate.
