A deeply disturbing crime has come to light in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, where a six-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and murdered. According to police, the accused threw the child from a rooftop after the assault in an attempt to conceal their identity.
The incident occurred late on January 2 in the Sikandrabad area. Police received information that a minor girl had been found critically injured in an open field behind a residential building. She was rushed to a nearby community health centre, where doctors declared her dead.
The girl’s father later filed a complaint stating that his daughter had been playing on the rooftop of their building before she went missing. A short while later, her body was discovered nearby. The family suspected two men living as tenants in the same building, identified as Raju and Veeru Kashyap.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Senior police officials immediately took cognisance of the case, given the brutality of the crime and the age of the victim.
Multiple police teams were formed to trace the accused. Acting on intelligence inputs, officers located the suspects hiding at a premises in an under-construction colony. When police attempted to surround the location, the accused allegedly opened fire in an attempt to escape.
Police retaliated in self-defence, injuring both accused in their legs during the encounter. The suspects were arrested in an injured condition and taken to a government hospital for treatment, where they remain under police custody.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime. Investigators believe the child was thrown from the rooftop after the assault to destroy evidence and prevent identification.
Forensic teams were deployed to examine the crime scene and collect evidence. A post-mortem examination is expected to provide further clarity on the sequence of events. Police officials have stated that the investigation will be fast-tracked and that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage among local residents and child rights activists, once again highlighting serious concerns about child safety, tenant verification, and crimes against minors. Authorities have increased police presence in the area to maintain law and order and prevent any escalation of public anger.
Officials have reiterated that crimes against children will not be tolerated and urged communities to remain vigilant. They have also appealed to parents and residents to immediately report any suspicious activity involving children.
This tragic case underscores the urgent need for stronger child protection mechanisms, strict enforcement of safety laws, and collective responsibility from society to safeguard children. As investigations continue, many are calling for swift justice and systemic reforms to prevent such crimes from recurring.
