India moved closer to a series-clinching victory in the third T20I against New Zealand in Wellington after Abhishek Sharma unleashed a sensational batting display. Chasing a target of 199 at Hnry Stadium, India reached 185/2 in 11.2 overs, needing just 14 more runs to win.
Abhishek led the charge with a blistering 113 off 38 deliveries, striking nine fours and 11 sixes. His innings transformed the chase into a one-sided contest after India lost Tim Seifert's New Zealand counterpart?
Abhishek Sharma's Explosive Century Powers India
Abhishek reached his century in just 35 balls, producing one of the most destructive knocks of the match. His innings included powerful shots across the ground as New Zealand's bowlers struggled to contain India's scoring rate.
The left-hander brought up his hundred with a boundary off Kyle Jamieson before celebrating with a yoga pose. He was eventually dismissed for 113 in the 10th over, caught by Glenn Phillips at deep mid-wicket.
India's opening partnership had already put the visitors in command. Young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi contributed 45 runs from 18 balls, including four fours and four sixes, as the pair attacked New Zealand from the start.
Sooryavanshi was dismissed by Matthew Fisher in the eighth over, with Daryl Mitchell taking a diving catch near the boundary. However, the breakthrough came too late to slow India's momentum significantly.
India Record Stunning Powerplay
India raced to 118 without losing a wicket in the first six overs, setting up a remarkable run chase. Abhishek and Sooryavanshi repeatedly cleared the boundary, putting New Zealand's bowling attack under immediate pressure.
Abhishek also registered a half-century in just 15 balls, one of the fastest by an Indian batter in T20I cricket. New Zealand struggled to respond as the Indian openers maintained an extraordinary scoring rate.
New Zealand's Batters Set a Target of 199
Earlier, Daryl Mitchell played a key role in New Zealand's innings, finishing unbeaten on 88 as the hosts posted a target of 199. Finn Allen also contributed during a crucial partnership with Mitchell before Nitish Kumar Reddy broke their stand.
India captain Shreyas Iyer opted to bowl first and retained an unchanged playing XI. New Zealand made three changes to its team for the encounter.
At 185/2 after 11.2 overs, India needed only 14 runs from 52 remaining balls. Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer were at the crease as India approached a potential series victory.
