Manohar Lal Reaches Houston for G20 Energy Talks Amid Global Crude Supply Strain

Union Minister Manohar Lal arrived in Houston on Sunday to represent India at the G20 Energy Ministers’ meeting, which is being held amid pressure on global crude supplies due to conflicts involving Iran and Ukraine.

The three-day G20 Ministerial Meeting on Energy Abundance, being hosted under the US G20 Presidency, will focus on energy security, affordable baseload power, regulatory efficiency, critical minerals and resilient supply chains. Manohar Lal is expected to present India’s approach to technology-neutral energy development, infrastructure modernisation and reforms aimed at making permitting processes more efficient.

India will also highlight efforts to diversify critical mineral supply chains during the discussions. The meeting will bring together senior officials including US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright and White House official Jarrod Agen.

Beyond the ministerial agenda, Manohar Lal’s Houston visit includes several engagements with the Indian diaspora. He attended a community reception at India House, where he praised Indian-Americans for maintaining cultural links with India while contributing to American society and the economy.

He also participated in a Hindi Diwas programme organised by the Indian Consulate in Houston and the International Hindi Association. The minister emphasised the global reach of Hindi and encouraged the diaspora to preserve the language and cultural heritage for future generations.

As part of his itinerary, Manohar Lal visited NASA’s Johnson Space Centre and held discussions on expanding India-US cooperation in space and space-based technologies.

He also launched the Indian Consulate’s participation in the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign by planting a sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative. He urged the diaspora to incorporate environmental responsibility into everyday life.

The Houston visit therefore combines India’s participation in crucial G20 energy discussions with diplomatic outreach, cultural engagement, space cooperation and environmental initiatives.
