Ministry of Education to Unite Universities at New Delhi World Book Fair 2026

The Ministry of Education is set to play an expanded role at the New Delhi World Book Fair 2026, which will be held from January 10 to January 18, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam. The upcoming edition aims to bring universities, higher education institutions and research bodies together on a single platform, reinforcing the fair’s role as a national hub for learning and knowledge exchange.

The fair will be organised by the National Book Trust, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education. Known as one of India’s largest literary events, the New Delhi World Book Fair attracts publishers, authors, educators, students and readers from across the country and abroad every year.

For the 2026 edition, the Ministry of Education has announced the creation of a dedicated Ministry of Education Pavilion, a consolidated space that will house universities, institutes and autonomous academic bodies under one roof. This pavilion is intended to showcase India’s higher education ecosystem in a more structured and accessible manner for visitors.

Participating institutions will be able to set up stalls within the pavilion to highlight their academic programmes, research output, innovations, publications and institutional initiatives. Officials said the move is designed to offer greater visibility to academic institutions while giving visitors a comprehensive view of India’s research and education landscape at a single venue.

The decision follows encouraging feedback from the 2025 edition of the fair, where academic institutions that participated reportedly drew significant public interest. By bringing these institutions together in one pavilion, organisers hope to create a stronger and more coherent academic presence within the broader publishing and literary environment of the fair.

Higher education institutions interested in participating have been asked to confirm their involvement with the National Book Trust. Details related to stall allocation, coordination and participation guidelines have been shared with universities and autonomous bodies through official communication channels. Queries can be addressed directly to the Director of the National Book Trust.

Beyond institutional showcases, universities and colleges have also been encouraged to actively involve students and faculty members in the event. Institutions have been requested to circulate information about the fair on their campuses and motivate students to attend, with organisers emphasising that student participation will be central to the success of the 2026 edition.

Traditionally, the New Delhi World Book Fair has served as a platform not only for book sales but also for discussions, author interactions, cultural programmes and intellectual dialogue. The enhanced participation of universities and research institutions is expected to add depth to these engagements, expanding the fair’s scope beyond publishing into academia and research.

With preparations underway, the 2026 edition is being positioned as more than just a book fair. The Ministry of Education’s initiative aims to transform it into a broader celebration of learning, research and knowledge-sharing, bringing together publishers, academic institutions and readers under one roof in the national capital.
