The Nike Vegam Run India launch marks a new step in the sportswear company’s efforts to strengthen its presence in the country. The running shoe, developed specifically for the Indian market, will be available through e-commerce marketplace Flipkart from November 1, 2026, at ₹3,795.
Nike unveiled the shoe on Wednesday, October 28, saying its development took approximately five months. The India-focused product comes as running gains popularity across the country, offering the brand an opportunity to reach consumers with a locally designed offering.
The launch follows Nike’s announcement earlier this month that it plans to open a new campus in India, signalling a broader push to expand its presence in the market.
Why Nike Is Betting on India
Nike’s India strategy comes as the company faces challenges in several major markets and looks for new avenues of growth.
Chief Executive Officer Elliott Hill has been working to revive the company’s performance through a refreshed product range. Analysts have suggested that products tailored to individual markets could play a role in the company’s recovery.
China remains a particular concern for Nike. The country contributes around 15% of the company’s annual revenue, but sales there have reportedly declined for nine consecutive quarters as international competitors and domestic sportswear brands gain ground.
Nike’s shares have also fallen by more than 40% so far this year, according to the report, increasing pressure on the company to improve its business performance.
Running Business Offers a Bright Spot
Despite its wider challenges, Nike’s global running business has shown stronger performance, recording double-digit growth for six consecutive quarters.
However, this expansion has not fully offset weakness in other areas, including Nike Sportswear, the Jordan brand and its Greater China operations.
Hill has warned that the performance business remains too small to compensate for pressure across these segments. The company has also projected a steeper-than-expected decline in full-year revenue.
Can the Vegam Run Drive Growth?
The Vegam Run gives Nike an opportunity to combine its running category’s momentum with a product designed for Indian consumers. Its ₹3,795 price point and Flipkart availability could help the brand reach shoppers through a major online marketplace.
However, the product’s long-term contribution will depend on consumer response, sales performance and its ability to compete in India’s footwear market.
For Nike, the launch is one part of a broader effort to find fresh growth opportunities while addressing challenges in established markets.
