No food, no washroom: Indian tourists allege inhuman treatment at Georgia-Armenia border

A shocking allegation has surfaced against Georgian border authorities, with claims of inhuman treatment toward a group of 56 Indian tourists. According to an Instagram post by Dhruvee Patel, the travellers were held at the Sadakhlo border crossing between Georgia and Armenia, where they were allegedly forced to sit outside in freezing temperatures without food, water, or access to washrooms.

Patel further alleged that the authorities confiscated the passports of all Indian travellers and restricted them from making any form of communication. “Forced to sit on the footpath like cattle. Took videos of us like criminals, but stopped us from filming,” she claimed.

She also stated that officials suggested their visas were “wrong” without properly verifying the required documents. “This is how Georgia treats Indians. Shameful and unacceptable,” Patel wrote.

Her post has sparked a wave of reactions online. While some social media users condemned the alleged mistreatment and called for a boycott of Georgia, others argued that Indians should reconsider travelling to the country given repeated reports of hostile behaviour.

One user commented, “Lots of scams and racism in Georgia, not worth it,” while another recounted a similar experience during a visit in 2019, saying he too felt treated “like a criminal.”

The incident has reignited concerns over the treatment of Indian tourists in Georgia, with many urging authorities to investigate the matter and ensure accountability.
