PM Modi Gifts Russian Edition of Bhagavad Gita to President Putin During New Delhi Meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted a Russian translation of the Bhagavad Gita to President Vladimir Putin during their high-profile meeting in New Delhi, marking a powerful cultural gesture that underscored the depth of India–Russia ties. The exchange took place shortly after PM Modi broke standard international protocol to personally receive the Russian President upon his arrival.

According to reporters present at the venue, the gift was viewed as a “deeply personal gesture” reflecting the long-standing camaraderie between the two leaders. Commentators noted that it symbolised the spiritual and cultural bridge that continues to support the strategic partnership.

The bilateral agenda for the visit includes discussions on defence cooperation, particularly progress on S-400 air defence systems, as well as trade expansion, energy partnership, and long-term strategic projects. The meeting also emphasised the “Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi” sentiment—a phrase often used to describe the historical trust and reliability that define India–Russia relations.

Putin’s itinerary in India includes a ceremonial meeting with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, followed by structured delegation-level talks aimed at strengthening defence, technological, and economic cooperation.
