Tamil cinema actor Sivakarthikeyan has addressed recent fan-driven controversies surrounding his latest film Parasakthi and the delayed release of Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay. Speaking during Pongal celebrations in Delhi, Sivakarthikeyan struck a conciliatory tone, firmly dismissing rivalry narratives and referring to Vijay as his “brother.”
The actor’s remarks come amid heightened social media exchanges between fan groups of Parasakthi and Jana Nayagan. The situation intensified after both films were initially expected to release around the same time, before Jana Nayagan faced a delay due to certification-related issues. Sivakarthikeyan clarified that he never intended to use the situation for publicity or controversy.
Addressing the fan wars, the actor said there was no need to amplify online chatter or generalise the actions of a few individuals. He emphasised that his personal relationship with Vijay remains unchanged. By calling Vijay his brother, Sivakarthikeyan sought to underline mutual respect and long-standing goodwill between the two actors, even as sections of their fan bases remain vocal online.
Sivakarthikeyan also spoke about the scrutiny faced by Parasakthi, a film that encountered significant hurdles before its release. The film, which eventually hit theatres on January 10, received certification only after several modifications. Responding to questions about the film’s messaging, the actor stressed that Parasakthi was never intended as propaganda.
According to Sivakarthikeyan, audiences who watch the film in its entirety are understanding its intent in the right spirit. He reiterated that the narrative does not push any hidden agenda and instead focuses on its core story. The actor added that cinema should not be reduced to controversy-driven interpretations, especially when creative intent is clear.
During the Pongal event in Delhi, Sivakarthikeyan was present alongside Narendra Modi and Union Minister L Murugan, making the occasion particularly significant. The actor also confirmed that he had personally wished Vijay well as he embarks on his political journey, both privately and publicly.
Speaking about Jana Nayagan, Sivakarthikeyan expressed confidence that the film would see a release soon, despite its current legal and certification challenges. He refrained from commenting on the specifics of the court proceedings but conveyed optimism that the matter would be resolved.
Meanwhile, Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara, continues to generate debate. The film, which revolves around two brothers involved in the anti-Hindi imposition movement of the 1960s, has received mixed reactions from audiences and political groups alike. Its release followed extensive changes mandated by the certification authority, reigniting discussions around artistic freedom and censorship in Indian cinema.
Political reactions further added to the discourse, with some organisations alleging historical distortion, while others defended the film’s creative liberty. In parallel, Jana Nayagan has also found itself at the intersection of cinema and politics, highlighting how Tamil films increasingly operate within broader social and political conversations.
By choosing restraint and fraternity over confrontation, Sivakarthikeyan’s remarks aim to calm tensions and redirect focus toward cinema itself, rather than online rivalry narratives.
