Tamil Nadu Secures Rs 15,300 Crore Investment Commitments After Vijay’s UK Visit

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay returned to Chennai on September 17 after a six-day official visit to the United Kingdom, during which the state secured investment commitments worth Rs 15,300 crore, according to the state government. The proposals are expected to generate more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The commitments include projects in auto components, renewable energy, research and development, power equipment and Global Capability Centres. Samvardhana Motherson International and its joint ventures announced an Rs 11,000-crore investment expected to create around 7,000 jobs. Wilson Power Solutions committed Rs 300 crore for a manufacturing facility in Tiruvallur, while a European automotive component company submitted a letter of intent for Rs 3,000 crore.

Sweden-based Sigma Technology Group also announced an expansion of its Global Capability Centres in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli, while Ernst & Young agreed to establish a GCC for an international client with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore.

During the visit, Vijay met Indian High Commissioner Kumaran Periasamy to discuss trade opportunities under the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. State officials also held discussions with companies across aerospace, defence, chemicals, logistics and retail.

Vijay visited Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit to examine racing infrastructure and safety arrangements as part of Tamil Nadu’s proposed Motor Sports City project. He also flagged off the Michelin Le Mans Cup race, which featured actor and racing driver Ajith Kumar.

The state government said the visit also resulted in potential trade, sourcing and skill-development partnerships with UK-based organisations.
