Telangana Launches New Education Policy Focusing on Inclusivity and Infrastructure

Telangana has initiated major reforms in its education sector with the rollout of a proposed Telangana Education Policy, aimed at improving inclusivity, infrastructure, and overall quality in public schooling. The policy is being developed on the lines of the National Education Policy (NEP) and will be shaped by a committee of education experts.

The initiative was discussed during a meeting at the Secretariat chaired by A Revanth Reddy, who highlighted the state government’s commitment to holistic education reform. Officials from Himachal Pradesh were also present as part of an inter-state knowledge-sharing exercise.

A major pillar of the reform is Telangana’s flagship integrated residential school model. Each school will be built on 25 acres at an estimated cost of ₹200 crore and will bring together students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, minorities, and other communities under one campus. The model is designed to promote social integration while ensuring equal access to modern educational facilities.

The Chief Minister emphasised that these residential schools will feature advanced infrastructure and uniform academic resources, allowing students from all socio-economic backgrounds to study together in a shared environment.

The policy discussions also covered plans to strengthen early childhood and rural education. The state is proposing pre-primary education support within government schools and transportation facilities for young students in rural areas, aimed at reducing dependence on private institutions.

In addition, Telangana plans to upgrade Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into Advanced Training Centres (ATCs) in every constituency to enhance vocational and technical education. These centres are expected to improve skill development and employment readiness among youth.

Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Kumar expressed interest in Telangana’s integrated school model and requested a detailed report for possible adaptation. Both states agreed to continue collaboration and exchange best practices in education reform.

Officials said the Telangana Education Policy is intended to make government schools more competitive, inclusive, and aligned with national education standards.
