Sunny Deol-starrer Border 2 continued its unstoppable run at the box office on Day 4, benefitting significantly from the Republic Day holiday. The patriotic sentiment, combined with strong word-of-mouth and mass appeal, translated into packed theatres and a sharp rise in collections across India.
Released on Friday, the war drama has shown consistent upward momentum each day. The national holiday acted as a major catalyst, pushing footfalls higher and reinforcing the film’s position as one of the biggest Hindi releases of the year so far.
By the end of Monday, Border 2 had amassed approximately Rs 177 crore nett at the domestic box office, while global earnings surged past Rs 239 crore. Day 4 alone contributed an estimated Rs 59 crore in India, marking one of the strongest Republic Day performances for a Hindi film in recent years.
The film’s daily earnings trend highlights its accelerating momentum. Opening day collections stood at around Rs 30 crore, followed by Rs 36.5 crore on Day 2. Sunday witnessed a further jump to Rs 54.5 crore, before the Republic Day holiday delivered another substantial leap. Trade analysts attribute this growth to the film’s patriotic theme, large-scale action sequences, and Sunny Deol’s enduring mass appeal.
High occupancy levels were reported across major cinema chains, particularly in North India and metro cities. Several multiplexes responded to audience demand by introducing late-night and post-midnight screenings, with some shows scheduled as late as 3 am in Mumbai, Thane, and adjoining regions. Single-screen theatres also reported near-capacity crowds throughout the holiday.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 expands the scale of its predecessor with a multi-front war narrative inspired by the 1971 India-Pakistan conflict. The film showcases coordinated battle sequences involving the Army, Air Force, and Navy, blending emotional storytelling with large-format action. Alongside Sunny Deol, the ensemble cast includes Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh, supported by strong performances from Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Anya Singh.
Industry voices have pointed to the film’s emotional resonance as a key factor behind its success. The Republic Day release window amplified its impact, with audiences gravitating towards content rooted in nationalism, sacrifice, and military valor.
The film’s production scale has also drawn attention. Shot extensively at real locations across Dehradun and Jhansi, the makers opted for practical effects over heavy reliance on visual effects. Large battle sequences involved hundreds of background performers, precise timing of explosions, and complex choreography, adding to the authenticity of the cinematic experience.
With weekday collections holding strong even after the holiday, Border 2 is expected to maintain its momentum in the coming days. Trade estimates suggest the film could comfortably cross the Rs 200 crore domestic mark within its first week if the current trend continues.
As cinema halls remain crowded and audience buzz shows no signs of slowing down, Border 2 has firmly established itself as a major box office force, reaffirming the enduring pull of large-scale patriotic cinema in India.
