Tech billionaire Elon Musk has strongly denied allegations linking him to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s private Caribbean island, following the release of a fresh batch of emails and documents by the US Justice Department. Describing the claims as misleading and malicious, Musk said Epstein had “hounded” him repeatedly to visit the island, but he had always refused.
The controversy erupted after newly released court records and emails suggested that Musk had attempted to arrange meetings with Epstein years after the financier’s 2008 conviction for sex crimes. Some of the documents reference discussions around possible travel plans, including helicopter transfers and dates when Musk was reportedly holidaying in the Caribbean in 2012 and 2013. One proposed visit was later cancelled due to scheduling issues, according to the records.
Responding publicly on X, Musk categorically denied ever visiting Epstein’s private island, flying on his aircraft, or attending any gatherings hosted by him. He claimed that the emails were being selectively interpreted to create a false narrative and insisted that he never followed through on any proposed meetings.
Musk’s rebuttal intensified after a public online clash with entrepreneur Reid Hoffman, who accused the Tesla and SpaceX chief of misrepresenting facts and attempting to deflect scrutiny. The exchange quickly escalated, with Musk accusing Hoffman of having actually visited Epstein’s island, while reiterating that he himself had declined all such invitations.
According to Musk, Epstein persistently tried to lure him to what he described as the “pedo island,” but those attempts ultimately reinforced his decision to stay away. He claimed that seeing Epstein reference the presence of other high-profile figures discouraged him further and led him to cut off contact.
The situation took another turn when Musk’s daughter, Vivian Wilson, publicly stated that she believed the emails were authentic. She confirmed that her family was in St. Barts during the time period referenced in the messages, lending credibility to the timeline. However, she also suggested that her father was in denial about the implications of the communications, adding another layer of complexity to the unfolding controversy.
Musk has framed the allegations as part of a broader smear campaign, saying he anticipated backlash for supporting full transparency around Epstein-related files. He argued that he has consistently backed the release of documents and accountability for those involved in child abuse cases, even at the cost of personal attacks.
“Nobody has pushed harder for the full release of the Epstein files than I have,” Musk said, adding that he expected criticism from political opponents and legacy media despite maintaining that he had no involvement in Epstein’s criminal activities.
In the midst of the row, Musk also endorsed social media posts calling out other powerful figures whose names have appeared in Epstein-related records. He claimed that his willingness to openly call for prosecutions is precisely why he is being targeted.
The renewed focus on Epstein follows the Justice Department’s release of millions of additional pages of documents, images, and videos under a transparency law passed last year. The disclosure represents the largest public release of Epstein-related material to date and has reignited scrutiny of past associations involving global business leaders, politicians, and public figures.
While the presence of a name in these records does not imply wrongdoing, the disclosures continue to fuel intense public debate. For Musk, the latest revelations have placed him at the centre of that storm, as he seeks to distance himself from Epstein while accusing rivals of hypocrisy and deflection.
