Jason Sanjay on Vijay Legacy: Sigma Will Shape My Identity as Director

Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay, has said he is conscious of the attention surrounding his family name as he prepares to make his directorial debut with Sigma. The 25-year-old filmmaker said audiences may initially view him through the lens of Vijay’s legacy, but he wants his work to establish his identity independently.

In an interview, Jason acknowledged that the question of whether he is being seen as Vijay’s son, the son of the Chief Minister or as a filmmaker is something he thinks about regularly. He said his family’s legacy will remain part of his journey, particularly as Vijay’s public role has expanded beyond cinema.

Jason said he has tried to keep Sigma within his own creative space and focus on delivering his vision. He believes that once audiences watch the film, their response to his work will become more important than his family background.

He said the film’s reception, whether positive or negative, will ultimately shape how people view him as a director. Jason added that Sigma is only the beginning of his filmmaking career and that he hopes to use the experience and exposure from the project to build his own identity in the industry.

Sigma stars Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah and marks Jason Sanjay’s debut as a director. Produced by Lyca Productions, the film is scheduled to release in theatres on October 2, 2026.
