New Year 2026: BSF Jawans Brave Heavy Snow to Guard LoC in Gulmarg

As the nation prepares to welcome the New Year 2026 with celebrations, personnel of the Border Security Force remain on high alert along the snowbound stretches of the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gulmarg sector, braving extreme cold and heavy snowfall to safeguard the country.

Operating in harsh winter conditions, BSF jawans continue their 24/7 vigil amid freezing temperatures, deep snow and low visibility. Despite the challenges, troops are maintaining a robust anti-infiltration grid to prevent any hostile movement across the border during the sensitive New Year period.

Security officials said the jawans are using specialised tactics such as the ‘fire and move’ technique to patrol snow-covered forests and rugged terrain. These ground operations are supported by drone surveillance and advanced monitoring systems to enhance real-time detection and response capabilities.

The soldiers described their unit as their closest family, underscoring the spirit of camaraderie and duty that sustains them through prolonged deployments in extreme weather. While festivities unfold across the country, troops stationed in forward areas continue to prioritise national security over personal celebrations.

Authorities said heightened alertness will remain in place through the New Year, with security forces maintaining constant coordination to ensure that adverse weather conditions are not exploited for infiltration attempts.
