Zomato Founder Deepinder Goyal Steps Down as Eternal CEO, Albinder Dhindsa Named Successor

In a major leadership transition at one of India’s most prominent consumer internet companies, Deepinder Goyal has stepped down as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Eternal, the parent firm of Zomato and Blinkit. The company announced that Albinder Dhindsa will take over as the new CEO, with the leadership changes set to take effect from February 1, 2026.

While relinquishing executive control, Goyal will remain closely involved with the company’s strategic direction. He has been appointed Vice Chairman and will continue as a director on Eternal’s board, signalling continuity at the top even as operational leadership shifts.

Leadership change amid strong financial performance

The announcement comes at a time when Eternal is reporting solid financial momentum. The Gurugram-based company posted a sequential rise in profitability for the third quarter, largely driven by robust demand in the quick commerce segment.

For the quarter ended December 31, Eternal reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 1.02 billion, nearly doubling from Rs 650 million in the previous quarter. Consolidated revenue from operations stood at Rs 163.15 billion, reflecting sustained growth across both food delivery and instant commerce verticals.

According to the company, the improvement in earnings was led by the strong performance of Blinkit, which continues to benefit from rising consumer preference for ultra-fast deliveries. Zomato’s core food delivery business also contributed steadily to overall revenue growth.

Albinder Dhindsa’s expanded role

Dhindsa, who has been leading Blinkit through its rapid expansion and path to profitability, is now set to oversee Eternal’s entire ecosystem. His appointment signals the company’s increasing focus on quick commerce as a central growth engine, alongside its established food delivery operations under Zomato.

Under Dhindsa’s leadership, Blinkit has emerged as a key driver of Eternal’s financial turnaround, making his elevation a strategic move aimed at scaling the business further while maintaining operational discipline.

Deepinder Goyal’s continued influence

Although stepping aside from day-to-day management, Goyal’s new role as Vice Chairman ensures he remains involved in long-term vision, governance, and strategic decision-making. As Zomato’s co-founder and public face for over a decade, Goyal has been instrumental in shaping the company’s journey from a restaurant discovery platform to a diversified consumer tech business.

The transition reflects a broader trend among maturing Indian startups, where founders move into strategic roles while experienced operators take charge of execution.

What this means for Eternal

With profitability improving and leadership continuity assured, Eternal appears to be entering a new phase of consolidation and growth. The combination of Goyal’s strategic oversight and Dhindsa’s operational expertise positions the company to deepen its presence in food delivery and accelerate its push in quick commerce—one of the most competitive segments in India’s digital economy.
