Dhanush and Mammootty’s OM Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood will now arrive in theatres on November 20, 2026, after its original October release was postponed to avoid a clash with Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 and the Diwali releases.
The makers announced the new release date on Friday with a fresh poster featuring Dhanush and Mammootty. The film was earlier scheduled to release on October 16, just a day after Jailer 2 was set to hit cinemas on October 15.
OM Chapter 1 moves away from Diwali release window
The decision to shift the film also takes OM Chapter 1 away from the Diwali release period. Suriya’s Scene and Ramayana Part One were already lined up for the festive window, prompting the makers to choose a later date.
Dhanush had previously announced the postponement and said the decision was taken out of respect for Rajinikanth. He noted that shifting a big film comes with challenges but said the team wanted to avoid competing directly with Jailer 2.
He also said that Suriya’s film had announced its Diwali date earlier, and that the makers of major films should maintain mutual understanding while planning releases.
Dhanush, Mammootty lead Rajkumar Periasamy’s film
Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, OM Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood features Dhanush and Mammootty in the lead, alongside Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela and Naseeruddin Shah.
Sai Abhyankkar has composed the music, while Ezhil Arasu K. is the cinematographer and R Kalaivanan serves as the editor. A. Pannerselvam is the art director, with Yannick Ben and Kecha Khamphakdee handling the action choreography.
The film is produced by Shraddha Agrawal, Dhanush and Azmat Jagmag. With November 20 now locked, OM Chapter 1 has officially stepped out of the crowded Diwali release race and found a new theatrical window.
