Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has launched the Satyagraha Portal, a platform aimed at documenting public grievances and ongoing protests across India. The initiative was announced through a video message on October 3, with Gandhi inviting citizens to register their concerns and details of protests on the platform.
According to Gandhi, the portal is intended to bring together the voices of groups including youth, farmers, tribals and Dalits who are raising issues or protesting over their demands. The information submitted by citizens is expected to provide a consolidated view of protests and grievances taking place in different parts of the country.
Gandhi said the Congress would support people raising such concerns and take up their issues both inside Parliament and through protests on the streets. The portal comes as the Congress and other Opposition parties have stepped up street demonstrations on several issues, including electoral-roll revision and alleged irregularities in the election process.
Portal comes amid wider protest campaign
The launch follows a series of protests and public campaigns involving Congress workers, students and other Opposition groups. On October 2, hundreds of protesters gathered at Delhi's Jantar Mantar over allegations concerning the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, with more than 1,000 people detained, according to India Today.
The Congress has also been highlighting grievances related to students, women's safety and other public issues. Gandhi has recently urged young people to participate in peaceful protests over women's safety and backed student-led demonstrations over education and recruitment concerns.
The Satyagraha Portal therefore adds a digital component to the party's broader strategy of collecting and highlighting public grievances. Its effectiveness will depend on how widely citizens use the platform and how the information submitted is verified and subsequently acted upon.
