Dubai witnessed fresh explosions after an Iranian drone strike targeted Dubai International Airport, briefly disrupting flight operations and triggering panic among passengers. The incident occurred amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, which has rapidly escalated across the Middle East.
Dubai International Airport, known as the world’s busiest international travel hub, temporarily halted flights after the attack. The disruption caused significant concern as the airport serves as a major transit point connecting Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
According to reports, a drone strike near the airport triggered large explosions and a thick cloud of smoke, which was visible across parts of the city. Images and videos circulating online showed a massive plume rising from the area surrounding the airport complex.
Passengers inside the airport were reportedly alerted about the situation and moved to safer areas as security protocols were activated. Some travellers were directed toward underground transport tunnels within the airport facility as a precautionary measure after the strike warning was issued.
Airline operations were temporarily affected as flights arriving and departing from Dubai were paused for a short period. Several flights were delayed while authorities assessed the situation and ensured the safety of passengers and airport infrastructure.
Airline operators later confirmed that flight services resumed after security checks were completed, though the incident caused brief disruption to travel schedules.
Authorities in Dubai also confirmed that air defence systems were activated following the explosions. Defence measures were deployed to intercept potential threats and prevent further damage to critical infrastructure.
The strike is part of the broader escalation in the Middle East conflict that has seen Iran launch missile and drone attacks toward several Gulf nations. Cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi have faced repeated alerts as tensions in the region continue to rise.
Officials stated that in many cases, incoming missiles and drones were intercepted before reaching their targets. However, debris from intercepted projectiles has occasionally caused smoke, minor fires, or limited damage in certain areas.
In a televised address after the latest incidents, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the country would temporarily pause attacks on neighbouring Gulf nations unless those countries directly launched attacks against Iran.
He also issued an apology to Gulf states and stated that Iran had no intention of invading neighbouring countries, even as military operations involving the United States and Israel continued to intensify.
The latest strike has once again highlighted how the ongoing conflict is affecting major economic and transportation hubs across the region. Dubai’s airport is a critical global aviation centre, handling millions of passengers every year.
Security experts warn that any prolonged disruption to such infrastructure could have wider consequences for global travel and trade.
As tensions continue across the Middle East, governments and aviation authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of passengers and maintain the functioning of critical transport networks.
