Haiwaan Box Office: Akshay Kumar-Saif Ali Khan Film Earns Rs 3 Crore on Day 1

Priyadarshan's crime thriller Haiwaan, starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, opened its theatrical run with an estimated Rs 3 crore nett in India on September 11. The film's first-day performance remained modest despite featuring two prominent Bollywood stars and marking their return to the screen together after 17 years.

According to box office estimates, Haiwaan recorded overall occupancy of around 11% across 7,224 shows on its opening day. Morning shows saw roughly 5% occupancy, while afternoon and evening screenings crossed 12%. Night shows performed better, with occupancy rising above 18%.

The film's estimated India gross stood at Rs 3.60 crore, while overseas markets contributed approximately Rs 1 crore gross. This puts its estimated worldwide gross at around Rs 4.60 crore after the first day.

The opening is below expectations for a film led by Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. It also ranks among the relatively lower first-day performances in the filmographies of both actors.

For Akshay Kumar, the reported opening is below the approximately Rs 3.88 crore nett collected by Bhool Bhulaiyaa on its first day in 2007. For Saif Ali Khan, Haiwaan opened in a range comparable to Ta Ra Rum Pum, which earned around Rs 3.50 crore nett on its opening day in 2007.

The film is facing strong competition from other releases and movies already performing well at the box office. Devotional drama Hanuman Ansh has continued its impressive theatrical run even after more than a month. The film reportedly collected Rs 10.50 crore nett on its sixth Friday and another Rs 0.39 crore on Saturday, taking its India nett total to an estimated Rs 174.02 crore.

Mirzapur: The Movie is another major competitor for Haiwaan. The film has maintained momentum during its second week, adding an estimated Rs 9 crore nett on its second Friday and Rs 21 crore nett on Saturday. Its India gross has reached approximately Rs 187.80 crore, while its India nett collection stands at around Rs 157.66 crore, with final figures yet to be reported.

Haiwaan is the Hindi remake of Priyadarshan's 2016 Malayalam film Oppam, which starred Mohanlal and Samuthirakani. The new version has been co-written and directed by Priyadarshan and is backed by KVN Productions and Thespian Films.

The film also carries significance as the final screen appearance of veteran actor Asrani, who died in 2025. Alongside Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, the cast includes Boman Irani, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Saiyami Kher. Mohanlal also makes a cameo appearance.

Music for Haiwaan has been composed by Pritam, while Ronnie Raphael has provided the background score.

The film's performance over the weekend will be important after its relatively subdued opening. With established titles continuing to attract audiences, Haiwaan will need stronger occupancy and collections in the coming days to build momentum at the box office.
