Magnus Carlsen Becomes Father: Ella Victoria Shares Heartwarming Post

World No.1 Magnus Carlsen and his wife Ella Victoria have welcomed their first child, marking a heartwarming new chapter for the couple. The baby was born on Saturday, September 27, 2025, and Ella shared the joyous news on social media with an adorable photo of Magnus and their newborn sleeping side by side. The post quickly garnered attention, with the chess community and FIDE extending heartfelt congratulations.

The couple had announced Ella’s pregnancy in May 2025, with Carlsen sharing pictures of his wife cradling her baby bump. They were married earlier this year in January at Oslo’s Holmenkollen Chapel in a private ceremony.

Carlsen Prepares for Champions Showdown

Even amid personal celebrations, Magnus Carlsen is gearing up for a high-profile return to competitive chess. From October 27–29, 2025, the Saint Louis Chess Club will host the Clutch Chess: Legends/Champions Showdown series.

A marquee match will feature Carlsen facing off against reigning World Champion D. Gukesh, while legends Garry Kasparov and Viswanathan Anand will renew their storied rivalry. The Carlsen–Gukesh duel is highly anticipated, pairing one of chess’s modern greats with one of today’s brightest young stars.

In 2025, Gukesh had stunned the chess world by defeating Carlsen twice:

  • Norway Chess 2025 – Gukesh defeated Carlsen in classical format under time pressure.

  • SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz Croatia 2025 – Gukesh outplayed Carlsen in a rapid game.

These victories underscore Gukesh’s rise as a formidable global chess talent.
