Ravindra Jadeja’s more than four-year reign as the top-ranked Test all-rounder ends as South Africa’s Marco Jansen takes the lead.

India’s Ravindra Jadeja has lost his position as the world’s top-ranked Test all-rounder after more than four years, with South Africa’s Marco Jansen claiming the No. 1 spot in the latest ICC Men’s Player Rankings released on October 28, 2026.

Jansen climbed one place to reach the summit for the first time in his career, collecting 451 rating points following his match-winning performance against Australia in Gqeberha. The 26-year-old contributed with both bat and ball as South Africa levelled the three-match Test series at 1-1.

He scored 85 runs and claimed a crucial five-wicket haul in Australia’s first innings, helping South Africa secure victory in the second Test of the World Test Championship contest.

Marco Jansen Becomes No. 1 Test Bowler

Jansen’s rise extends beyond the all-rounder rankings. The left-arm fast bowler climbed five places to displace Australia’s Mitchell Starc as the world’s top-ranked Test bowler.

He also advanced 13 places in the Test batting rankings to reach 56th, reflecting his growing contribution to South Africa’s batting and bowling departments.

His performances have strengthened his reputation as a key figure in the South African team. Former South Africa fast-bowling great Dale Steyn recently described Jansen as the best cricketer in the world, adding to the recognition surrounding the all-rounder’s progress.

Ravindra Jadeja’s Long Reign Comes to an End

Jadeja had held the No. 1 position among Test all-rounders for more than four years, establishing himself as one of the most consistent performers in the format.

His ability to deliver valuable contributions with both bat and ball helped him maintain his position at the top of the rankings for an extended period. Jansen’s latest performance has now brought that run to a close.

Temba Bavuma and Simon Harmer Also Gain Ground

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma climbed four places to second in the Test batting rankings after scoring 179 in the first innings against Australia and earning Player of the Match honours. England captain Harry Brook remained the only batter ranked above him.

South African spinner Simon Harmer moved up 15 places to eighth among Test all-rounders, while Australia’s Scott Boland climbed three places to sixth in the Test bowling rankings.

The latest rankings update highlights South Africa’s strong individual performances against Australia, with Jansen emerging as the biggest mover across the all-rounder and bowling categories.
