Parasakthi Gets U/A Certificate: Sivakarthikeyan–Sudha Kongara Film Runtime and Release Details Revealed

The much-awaited Tamil film Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan and directed by Sudha Kongara, has officially cleared all censor-related hurdles ahead of its theatrical release. The Central Board of Film Certification has granted the film a U/A 16+ certificate, paving the way for its worldwide release on January 10, 2026.

With the certification now in place, the makers have also revealed the film’s final runtime, which stands at 2 hours, 42 minutes and 43 seconds. The clearance brings relief to fans and industry observers alike, especially after recent delays faced by other big-ticket Tamil releases over censor approvals.

The production house Dawn Pictures marked the occasion with an official announcement on social media, describing Parasakthi as “a fire that speaks to all ages.” The celebratory post confirmed that the film would hit theatres as scheduled, reinforcing confidence among exhibitors and audiences ahead of the festive Pongal weekend.

Parasakthi is a historically rooted political drama that revisits the anti-Hindi protests of the 1960s in Madras, a turbulent period that shaped Tamil Nadu’s linguistic and cultural identity. Drawing inspiration from real events, the film is expected to explore themes of resistance, identity, social justice, and political awakening, making it one of the more content-driven mainstream releases of the year.

Industry attention had earlier turned to the film after reports emerged that it was referred to the CBFC Revising Committee. On January 8, director Sudha Kongara personally presented the film before the committee in Mumbai after declining to accept suggested cuts. She reportedly argued that the proposed edits could weaken the film’s historical authenticity and narrative integrity. The final U/A certification indicates that the film was cleared without compromising its core storytelling.

Apart from its strong subject matter, Parasakthi also holds special significance for music lovers. The film marks the 100th film as a composer for G V Prakash Kumar, a milestone celebrated across the industry. His music is expected to play a crucial role in elevating the film’s emotional and political undertones.

The film also features a strong supporting cast including Ravi Mohan and Atharvaa Murali, adding further weight to the project. Backed by a compelling narrative and a proven creative team, Parasakthi has been positioned as a serious yet accessible film aimed at both mass and family audiences, in line with its U/A certification.

With censor clearance secured and promotions gaining momentum, expectations are high for Parasakthi to make a strong impact at the box office. As Pongal releases line up across languages, the Sivakarthikeyan–Sudha Kongara collaboration stands out as a film that blends political history with mainstream cinematic appeal.
