Elon Musk Praises Xi Jinping, Calls Him a ‘Great Leader’ in CCTV Interview

Elon Musk praised Chinese President Xi Jinping during an interview with Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, describing him as a “great leader” and saying China had experienced significant prosperity during his tenure.

Musk pointed to China’s new buildings and infrastructure as visible signs of economic development and said he had also observed rising prosperity among ordinary citizens. His comments came as Xi was scheduled to visit the United States from September 23 to 25 for talks with US President Donald Trump.

Musk was also expected to attend a White House state dinner for Xi, alongside several prominent technology executives. The Trump-Xi meeting is expected to cover issues including trade, artificial intelligence, supply chains and geopolitical tensions.

During the interview, Musk also praised Tesla’s Shanghai manufacturing facility, calling it a “gem” and highlighting the local team’s skills, work ethic and reliability. The Shanghai plant is Tesla’s largest manufacturing hub and its biggest export centre globally.

The comments come amid continued US-China discussions over trade and technology, with American businesses maintaining significant commercial links with China despite broader strategic tensions between the two countries.
